Executive Summary

Among the major afflictions of man famine, pestilence and war the greatest progress has been made in controlling disease; in terms of lives saved, measurers for controlling infectious diseases stand as the most important achievements in the history of medicine.
A global revolution in the use of antimicrobials is now required, according to a government-backed report.  Lord Jim O'Neill, who led the Review on Antimicrobial Resistance, said a campaign was needed to stop people treating antibiotics like sweets.  It is the first recommendation in the global plan for preventing medicine "being cast back into the dark ages."  The report has received a mixed response with some concerned that it does not go far enough.  Superbugs, resistant to antimicrobials, are estimated to account for 700,000 deaths each year.
Scientific modelling up to the year 2050, by Rand Europe and auditors KPMG, notes that upwards of 10 million people could die each year; equivalent to one every three seconds.
The report brings together eight previous interim reports that recommended:
  • An urgent and massive global awareness campaign as most people are ignorant of the risks and establishing a $2 billion Global Innovation Fund for early stage research;
  • Improved access to clean water, sanitation and cleaner hospitals to prevent infections spreading;
  • Reduce the unnecessary vast antibiotic use in agriculture including a ban on those "highly critical" to human health, therefore clean environments in animal husbandry;
  • Improved surveillance of the spread of drug resistance;
  • Financial incentives to develop new tests to prevent antibiotics being given when they will not work;
  • Promoting the use of vaccines and alternatives to drugs;
  • The review said the economic case for action "was clear" and could be paid for using a small cut of the current health budgets of countries or through extra taxes on pharmaceutical companies not investing in antibiotic and preventative research; and
  • Lord Jim O'Neill, the economist who led the global review, said: "We need to inform in different ways, all over the world, why it's crucial we stop treating our antibiotics like sweets.
Prevention is our first line of defense in the battle against this global crisis resistant Superbugs. To meet this challenge, Active Laboratory, Inc. (“Active Lab") is proud to present CitrusDefence®, which is a completely organic biocidal product that is hypoallergenic, a natural biocide, and virucidal with a broad spectrum of sanitizing characteristics which has a Food Grade Surface disinfectant Mechanism of action: and its special formulation combined with natural bio-surfactant preventing bacteria to grow resistance at a competitive and cost effective solution. CitrusDefence® is a non-toxic organic replacement for chlorine. Our product mechanically destroys the cellular membrane of the microorganism (cell wall intrusion). The efficacy of CitrusDefence® is due to the unique blend of bioflavonoid, organic acids and Bio-Surfactants Included in the formulation. All ingredients are carried in a food safe naturally derived solvent which makes the active ingredients infinitely soluble in water.
Active Lab was incorporated in 2005 in the Province of Quebec by Robert Ritondo.  Mr. Ritondo, a seasoned industry professional has been a champion  for natural medicinal solutions.  Mr Ritondo is determined to advance research and further develop several formulations with biocidal and preservative qualities that will have characteristics to meet broader applications, to focus in developing and support a range of natural and non-toxic products for providing disease prevention and control in the food processing, healthcare, personal care, and agriculture industries.  The research and development evolved to the creation of CitrusDefence®, a completely organic biocidal product that is hypoallergenic, a natural biocide, and virucidal with a broad spectrum of sanitizing characteristics.
Active Lab, throughout the years, has been very present in the world of nutraceuticals, finding the best scientifically-referenced actives available and offering a range of supplements and building credibility for over ten years offering quality and safe products to the consumer.  Over the past eleven years, Active Lab has built relationships with renowned PhDs and researchers willing to partner in commercializing proprietary formulations to the market.  Active Labs multiple pipelines in North America and throughout the world presents multiple strategic relationships and opportunities with scientific breakthrough products, exclusivities and its own flagship state of the art products unveiled to new markets.
CitrusDefence®
CitrusDefence®, is used for disinfection of surfaces.  The applications for which a series of tests at the Pasteur Institute of Lille, France, according to the European Suspension Test BS EN 1276.  CitrusDefence® breaks down biofilms that cling to surfaces and house large quantities of bacteria.  Bacteria that is attached to biofilms are 150 to 3,000 times more resistant to chlorine than unattached cells.  Active Lab is continuing to investigate and develop applications of the CitrusDefence® biocide technology in the food, agriculture, human and animal health, personal care, and cosmetic industries.  A number of new applications incorporating the biocidal and preservative qualities of CitrusDefence® are in development targeted in the personal hygiene and health area.
These methods of action do not cause a resistance build-up in bacteria. Being non-toxic and biodegradable the compound is a platform for many products in the health and food industries.
All CitrusDefence® products contain is a unique, versatile, biocide technology that can be used in a range of applications. It is currently available in a suite of proprietary products.
DermAction®
Active Lab developed a line of personal care branded products under the DermAction® trademark which consists of natural hand sanitizers, foot care, and acne lotions, which are sold in brick and mortar stores throughout Canada.
ActivFoam®
Active Lab developed a heavy duty foaming biocidal alkaline cleaner that is a combination of metasilicate, modern biocidal foam surfactants.  This product will remove proteinaceous soils, oils, and fat encrusted soils.
ActivCrop®
Active Lab developed a nutrient synergist with bactericidal properties.  It acts as a systemic nutrient synergist which improves the nutrition of the crop thus assisting in the activation of the plants natural protection and defense mechanisms.
